Keeping freshwater fish has been a hobby of mine since the day I first dumped a mismatched community of fish into an uncycled aquarium several years ago (Yeah, don't do that).  Hundreds of dollars later, several fish and three aquariums later I've learned a few things and this website is the result.  Hope it serves to entertain.  Dare I hope it's informative?  Read the disclaimer.  Its here somewhere . . .

Navigation of the site is hopefully straightforward.  The site is divided into six chapters or sections which are listed at the top of this page (and every page).  Most pages include some type of side bar to help navigate subsections such as individual articles or profiles.  These sidebars may contain live links or simply a list of a page contents.

If you are a beginner to the hobby you may want to start with the articles section for help with setting up your tank and how to maintain your aquarium.  This site contains a short list of species profiles that may be access through the navigation menu.

Lastly, keep in mind that this is a hobby site.  I don't claim to be an expert.  I've tried to be as useful as I can so don't blame the messenger.  So try to enjoy the site and if you don't try to be constructive with comments.  Thanks.

Small Setups
A small space does not have to limit your freshwater fish keeping experience.  Even a three gallon system can house an amazing and colourful species, like a betta.  A ten gallon system can be stocked with a school of colourful small tetras.  A single pair of dwarf gourami, honey gourami or dwarf cichlids will impress in even a twenty gallon setup. more+

Adding Freshwater Plants
Armed with the knowlege that adding  live plants to an aquarium results in a healthier fish population and a stunning aesthetic, one must also realize that this doesn't happen overnight or without effort.  But even if you were to stock your tank with nothing but "beginner plants" it would still look amazing and make for a healthier system.  more+

Adding Synthetic Plants
Fake plants are easy to plant, easy to pull out, easy to clean, never need pruning, and don't pollute.  They don't need special lighting, temperature, or feeding.  Water chemistry is never an issue.  Synthetics in a manner approaching the real thing, provide shade and cover for your timid and harassed species, and are easy to rearrange or replace when uprooted by that ever lovin' convict.  Best of all (best of all?) they are a one time purchase making them easier on the wallet.  more+
